Praising diversity in, outside of classrooms

Ms. Briggs’ Montessori class continues to focus on diversity lessons to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

And one of the beautiful things about our students is that external differences between one person and another don’t usually phase them. Children may notice that someone is a different color from them (much like two different-colored eggs, as seen in photos from the class lesson), or that a peer speaks a different language, but that doesn’t seem to matter. Through lessons like this, Ms. Briggs reinforces acceptance of others and helps her students see that these differences are not a big deal at all! Like the different-colored eggs example used in Ms. Briggs classroom, we are all the same on the inside regardless of how we look on the outside. Our hope and dream is that our students will carry these lessons throughout their lives, and spread kindness and acceptance wherever they go!
