ADVENTURE IN LITERATURE
Each week our camp focuses on different literature study for a wonderful, fun-filled week. Each week’s theme is packed with learning for our young campers.
They will travel to different centers each day to participate in art, cooking, games, math, reading and more!
EDIBLE EXPERIMENTS AND KITCHEN CHEMISTRY
Who doesn’t love food? In this class, students discover that there is a lot of science that goes into the foods they love to eat. Explore questions such as how baking ingredients work and how and why certain ingredients work together.
Students will explore the world of yeast and how it works while making their own bread. Hypothesize which ingredients will make the best cookies. Make colored rock candy and create your own crystal geodes out of ordinary kitchen ingredients!
PAPER PALOOZA
Learn how to create your own paper! Test out different materials in the paper making process for a variety of cool colors and designs. Also create your own Plantable Pulp Cards. Learn how to turn an old book into an amazing new art project creating a Deconstructed Book.
Learn the history of origami and create your own origami animals. Explore the craft of paper mache and create your own vessel to take home!
NATURE HUNT
Explore the amazing world of nature with our cool experiments, games, and nature walks! Study seed germination and conduct experiments on seed growth while growing a variety of plants.
Learn how animals use camouflage and go on a nature walk at Churchville Nature Center to spy animals. Create your own recyclable art project while learning how to save the environment.
THINGS THAT GO BOOM!
Have a “blast” with a week of experiments that explode, erupt or splat! Create a Fantastic Foamy Fountain, build a Water Rocket, create your own mini volcano, blow up balloons with Pops Rocks, and much more.
Build your own contraptions to save an egg from a 10 foot drop!
BOTANICAL GARDEN
What better way to learn about healthy food then to grow it themselves! Students will learn all about the parts of a plant and flower, grow their own specimens and sample fresh vegetables from the garden.
Students will also have fun creating beautiful crafts with real flowers like flower pounding and pressing. They will also try their hand at painting still lifes of different flowers.
YOUNG AUTHORS
Do you love to read and write? In this camp, students will create, revise and share expressive pieces in a variety of genres.
Celebrate their work and share their creative pieces with peers at the end of the week! Each student will receive a hardbound book of their work from the week!
AMAZING KITCHEN ART
Did you know that you can make paint from milk, eggs and even shaving cream? Learn how to make a variety of paint to use in different projects. Students will mix up their own batches of dimensional paint, window paint, and more!
They will also make their own clay, chalk, and rainbow glitter crayons! All recipes will come home with the students to recreate at home.
YOUNG POET’S SOCIETY
Students will dive into the world of poetry in this reading and writing workshop. Students will read, listen to and write many different forms of poetry. We will celebrate their finished pieces by having a Poetry Café.
The student poets read aloud some of their poems they wrote for their classmate and family members.
MEDIEVAL TIMES
Campers learn how people lived during the Middle Ages. They explore feudal life, homes, clothing, daily activities and more.
After learning about medieval castles and culture, students build their own trebuchet, catapult, castle and special Coat of Arms.
BUILD IT!
MOTION AND DESIGN
Students will break out their creativity and build a variety of cars and planes. They explore, through experiments and multiple trials, how forces like friction, gravity, and air resistance work against motion to slow their vehicles down.
Students will be able to test and rebuilt the ultimate vehicle that will be the fastest of the class!
NATURE HUNT 2
Explore the amazing world of nature with our cool experiments, games, and nature walks! Study seed germination and conduct experiments on seed growth while growing a variety of plants. Study water from different sources for microscopic organisms.
Study and collect pond water at Churchville Nature Center. Dissect owl pellets and study birds and their habitats in our area. Create your own recyclable art project while learning how to save the environment.
